What is Ribbing?
Ribbing is a specific type of ribbed knit fabric that is:
- Specifically made for cuffs, waistbands, and neckbands on garments.
- Designed to have excellent stretch and recovery, meaning it stretches over the body (e.g., head or wrists) and snaps back to its original shape.
- Thicker, denser, and more stable than regular ribbed knit fabric.
- Gives a professional and finished look to the edges of knit garments.
Why is Ribbing different to Ribbed Knits (Ribbed Jersey Knits)?
Ribbed knit fabrics, also called ribbed jersey, is:
- A lighter, softer, and more flexible ribbed knit designed for the main body components of a garment
- Typically used to make entire garments like t-shirts, dresses, leggings, underwear etc.
- Offers great stretch, but not the same recovery or hold as true ribbing fabric.
- Ribbing is the preferred product designed for your cuffs and bands, rather than ribbed knits.
