What is Ribbing & how is it different to ribbed knit?
Ribbing fabric and ribbed knits are two different types of knitted clothing materials. Ribbing fabric is a tight type of ribbed knit that is explicitly made for cuffs, waistbands, and neckbands. It is a thicker and more stable knit that functions better than ribbed knit for your garment bands, it holds a better shape and gives a very professional look to your knit garment!
Ribbed jersey knits are lighter in weight and texture, and are designed to create whole garments (rather than just the cuffs and bands).
A quality ribbing band or cuff will stretch easily over the head or feet, but then return to its original size & shape that was sewn onto the garment - so that it sits correctly once the garment is on (this is referred to as recovery).
Ribbing is by far the best product for your cuffs and bands on your knit garments - it is designed precisely for this use, and will do a superior job rather than a ribbed jersey knit or a standard cotton jersey knit.
